About Us
Academy Classes
Kids/Juniors Jiu Jitsu
Open to kids ages 6-12.
This comprehensive self-defense program was created in response to parents' desire for their children to have a place outside their homes to develop values such as responsibility, respect, and self-discipline. A positive sense of self, along with the ability and confidence to appropriately defend oneself is a sure outcome from enrollment into our martial arts team. Kids gain positive knowledge that will last a lifetime in a fun and safe environment!
The main goal in Jiu Jitsu practice is to cultivate a person's mind and body, not to use it as a means to vent one's anger, frustration or emotional problems. The use of force is condoned only in self-defense or in the defense of those who are defenseless.
Upon enrollment, training for beginners is twice per week and other options will become available as you advance in your training. Jiu Jitsu is an ongoing class and can be entered into at any time.
This is just an example of the development skills we teach as a part of our classes.
POWerful Words
Our goal is to teach students to reach their truest potential in life. We have partnered with Robyn J. A. Silverman, PhD., Child and Adolescent Development Specialist. Dr. Robyn, as many call her, has developed a comprehensive character development curriculum called POWerful Words!
POWerful Words provides easy-to-follow lessons for children ages 4-13, lessons that give each student the strength to explore and the foundation to succeed.
Here at The Metrowest Academy, such a character education program used within the context of our organized martial arts lessons, can invite students to listen, share, discover and reflect on the ways to become upstanding members of our community as well as confident individuals in their own right.
Our Bulletin Boards offer our parents a one-stop information center to keep updated as to what the children will be learning. In addition, parents will receive monthly editions of the Parents Perch, and POWerful Projects newsletters. The Parents Perch is a letter that describes the POWerful Word of the Month and how we will be teaching it at our academy. This can serve as a great discussion starter for you and your kids!
Each month our students will have the opportunity to be positively recognized for completing a POWerful Project. These projects are age appropriate, very educational, and fun to do! At the end of every class our students will take part in a POWerful Mat Chat that will help them to solidify their understanding of the POWerful Character Word of the Month. Dr. Robyn has written this curriculum specifically for use in our Martial Arts Academy, so now our students will actually be getting two world-class programs for the price of one!

POWERFUL WORD
CHARITY
Charity means giving to those in need without expecting anything in return.
We often focus on how we can improve ourselves. How can we focus more? How can we change our attitude? This month, we are discussing how we can help others. Charity is all about giving to those who are in need. There are so many different kinds of things we can give, so many different ways we can give, and so many different kinds of people and causes to which we can give. The possibilities are plentiful! When we give to those in need, we are making our community and our world a better place. How do YOU give? What do YOU give?
