Allison has done both on the mat and off the mat training in self-defense. She has taken multiple firearms classes with the SIG Sauer Academy and with Down Range Firearms Training. In addition, she has reached level one in JKD/Kali training under Guru Raffi Derderian, and has done multiple training sessions with both Rory Miller and Hock Hocheim. Q: WHY TRAIN IN A WOMEN'S-ONLY CLASS IF YOU DO NOT PLAN TO TRAIN IN JIU JITSU ON A REGULAR BASIS?
A: Because everything helps. Will you be an expert? No. Will you remember everything after only one class? No. Will it change your perspective and your awareness levels? Absolutely. Every new skill changes how you feel about yourself. As that changes, your behavior changes at a subconscious level. Each class, each skill, each attitude adjustment changes how you appear in public and suddenly... you fail the predatory interview. Believe me, that is one interview you want to fail.
Q: DO I HAVE TO COME TO EVERY CLASS?
A: Since it is a course, we suggest you try and make it to most of the classes. If you miss one or two, that is okay! At the end of the 9 classes we will have a fun scenario, pizza party. To be eligible to attend that skills test you must do at least 6 or the 9 classes.
Q: WHY TRAIN IN A WOMEN'S-ONLY CLASS IF YOU ARE ALREADY A MEMBER OF THE METROWEST ACADEMY?
A: Because what and how we teach Jiu Jitsu in a women's-only class can be different than the regular co-ed classes. Particularly, the "what." Some skills are not necessary for men to learn, but absolutely critical for women.
Q: HOW DO I REGISTER?
A: You can RSVP in person, over the phone, or online Click on the link to RSVP online, and to fill out our waiver:
Q: What do I wear?
A: Wear comfortable clothing. We suggest athletic shorts, yoga pants, or sweatpants and a t-shirt. Please note that no outdoor shoes are allowed on the mat.
Q: What should I expect?
A: Expect a fun-filled hour and a half, with a lot of different challenges. We will push you outside of your comfort zone but still have you laughing and smiling. This is 100% a safe space for women to discuss and learn. We will do a quick warm up and then jump right into strikes and the topics of the night.
Q: What are some topics covered?
A: We have a ton of topics that we can touch upon. Each topic will resort back to women in self-defense. We will work techniques ranging from simple to more complex. We will work ground fighting, striking, joint manipulation, throwing opponents, knife, stick, and gun defenses, along with a bunch of safety tips and verbal de-escalation.
Q: Is every class the same?
A: Nope! By design, we will re-cap some of the most important topics such as strikes and de-escalation, but every month we will also have different topics to discuss. Feel free to let us know if YOU have a topic or a question that you want to go over! We would be happy to incorporate it.
